Aug. 8 is a special day this year - numerically speaking, anyway.
And it is an extra special day for Brook Bynaker of Hanover. She is turning 8 on 8-8-08.
“I like it,” she said about having her birthday fall on a day chock full of ocho.
She squirmed and acted shy from the attention. But she hasn’t been so shy around her family.
“She’s been running around for weeks saying my birthday is eight-eight-oh-eight,’” said her grandmother, Brenda Malette.
Brook’s parents, Brian and Steph Bynaker, pointed out this numerical nuttiness to her several weeks ago. She thinks its pretty neat, her dad said, and a special birthday she will remember the rest of her life.
“We’re going to have cupcakes and maybe get in the pool in the back,” Brian Bynaker said about their plans for today.
Since he works during the day at Snyder’s and his wife works at night at GNS, they are actually going to wait until Saturday for a big celebration.
The couple have three daughters. The youngest is Amber, who is 6. The oldest, Kirsten, would have had a special date of birth had she been born six days later. She was born on 9-3-99.
So, what does an 8-year-old these days want for her birthday?
“I want a laptop,” she said.
She is looking forward to playing with her friends and family, and maybe going to Pizza Hut.
And Dad is thinking about playing the lottery with a combination of eights and zeroes.
Brook will be a third-grader at Washington.
